Mile Wide’s Idlewild Session IPA in a can makes me feel like Rocky Balboa!

Remember when Clubber Lang and Thunderlips wanted to beat the living piss out of Rocky Balboa, but after running on the beach with Apollo Creed while listening to “Eye of the Tiger” he had the strength to defeat them both? That’s how it went, right?

Here’s a dumb analogy: The long, cumbersome work week punches at my soul like Thunderlips, and paying bills and doing chores beats me down like Clubber Lang. When these two adversarial tasks start to wear me down, I respond with my own personal Apollo Creed in the form of an icy cold tall boy can of Mile Wide‘s Idlewild Pale Ale. The sound I hear as I crack one of these precious beers open awakens my inner Rocky Balboa like the sound of the bell before a big match. After pouring the contents of the can into a glass, I take a breath as I appreciate the deep, golden color and the aroma of fresh hops. Each heavenly sip is a victory in it’s own right, and suddenly everything doesn’t seem so bad.

I purchased this 4-pack of Idlewild at the Highlands Value Market at Midcity Mall. To be completely honest, I didn’t know that Mile Wide were selling retail canned beers to begin with before yesterday, but boy howdy was I excited when I found out. Sure, I love their spot in Germantown (636 Barret Avenue) but the older I get, more often than not, I prefer to drink beer inside my own god damned house listening to my own god damned records. And now you can too with one of Louisville’s heroic IPA’s.

I wish I had more information on this beer, particularly where to find it other than Value Market or their brewpub, but after a bit of internet spelunking, I was unsuccessful at finding many details. Regardless, if your a fan of session IPAs, treat your liver to one this city’s finest renditions. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the nod, Nerv. Of all the delicious brews we craft, Idlewild is my personal favorite. As far as retail cans are concerned, we are pumping out Barstow, our American Wheat Ale in addition to Idlewild currently. McPoyle and Leroy (a Milk Stout and American Brown Ale respectively) should see shelves by month’s end. In addition to the carryout cooler at our taproom, these are/will be available at most retailers in the greater Louisville area where you would expect to see solid craft selections. So Liquor Barns, Total Wine, Old Town, Cox’s, etc….
