The Derby City Roller Girls 2018 (Partial) Schedule has arrived!

Our local roller derby team, the Derby City Roller Girls are about to start this year’s season, and I couldn’t be more excited for it. Last season we had very few home games, but this year as of right now we have three home games in our partial season schedule. The Derby City Roller Girls — DCRG, practices and has bouts at Champs Rollerdome in Lyndon (9851 Lagrange Road). What we have scheduled for this season is as follows (bolded matches are home games; unbolded are away):

2/23 Expo Bout
4/7 Lansing Derby Vixens (Lansing, MI)
5/12 Demo City
6/9 Burning River Roller Derby (Cleveland, OH)
6/10 Akron Roller Derby – TBD
6/23 Expo Bout – Home

Our first game will be our A team versus our B team, the Bourbon Brawlers. This will give new players a chance to assess their skills outside of practices, while giving our A team a sort of warm up to sanctioned game play for this season. This is sure to be a fun bout, so be sure to come out, drink some beer, and watch some badass women play a beautiful and chaotic sport.

If you’re looking for free entry, get up off your ass and sign up to be a volunteer! Duties would include running the merch table, beer slinging, security, ticket booth, et cetera. Any interest or inquiries regarding this should be directed to info@derbycityrollergirls.com. We also need referees, stats people and EMT’s. For any interested in these opportunities, please shoot an email to pr-marketing@derbycityrollergirls.com. Our volunteers are incredibly important to us. Come join an amazing community of people who genuinely care about this sport and the people who help make it happen! Volunteers also will be placed into a monthly drawing to receive gift cards to various places around Louisville – how cool is that?

If you’re interested in being a roller girl, we also have another boot camp coming up in March! Being a roller girl — even though I haven’t quite made it through my assessment yet — has changed me for the better. It’s a demanding and rewarding sport, but it’s worth every bit of effort put into it! If interested, contact training@derbycityrollergirls. Bee, our current bootcamp instructor is amazing! She is one of the best coaches I have ever had — working with her will help you learn how to skate, and start on the path to being an all around badass within the sport.

Be on the lookout for updates on our Facebook page, as well as our website, which is currently under construction but will be up and running as soon as possible. In the meantime, get a look at a few recent photos of the DCRG I’ve had the pleasure of taking below:
