ROLLER DERBY: Team Kentucky is headed to the Battle of the All-Stars State Tourney in Philadelphia!

It’s happening, guys: There is now a Kentucky Team that will be representing our state in the upcoming Battle of the All-Stars State Tournament, January 11-14! The event will be hosted in Philadelphia for the first time in the tournament’s 5-year history (go here for more information). Our hometown team the Derby City Roller Girls has a few players that made it onto Team Kentucky’s roster! YAY! Go DCRG! Those players being AKA Rogue, Carrie A. Glock, ReXXy Dangerfield, Samantha, Slamus Aran, Slingher Kyle, and Shellnita Crutch as a helper to the team. Other derby players from other Kentucky teams are Bunny, Pinkie Brewser, and Rocky Floor’er from the Roller Girls of Central Kentucky; Bambi Thumpher, Jenerator, Jenferno, and Soda Pop Ruckus from the Vette City Roller Girls; Barba Fett, and Michonne Unslayable from the West Kentucky Rockin’ Rollers; Neva Shakababy and Silverose from the Black-N-Bluegrass Roller Girls; and unaffiliated skaters are Bo Dacious and Johnnie Knocks’Em. Last but not least, Team Kentucky’s coach is the awesome Gorie Details!

If you’re looking to help, Team Kentucky has started a gofundme page for assistance with travel expenses, uniforms, and submission to the tournament! Any donations are greatly appreciated, and other fundraising opportunities will be announced on their website (go here to donate).

On Saturday, November 4, 2017, Team Kentucky split their members up, added a few friends to the roster, and played an exhibition bout of Black vs. White. The game provided the chance for Team Kentucky to challenge themselves to work together, formulate on the spot strategies, and get a feel for each other as a whole. The Black team ended up winning the match in an over 100-point difference. Check out a few photos I took of the scrimmage below:
